In recent times local Japanese governments have set up film commissions in many municipalities to attract film/video makers as they are very keen to promote their local towns as filming destinations.  It is now a great opportunity to plan filming in Japan as the Japanese Yen is not as strong as it used be.  Filming in Japan can be achieved on a very reasonable budget. 

Japan can offer a variety of locations that Western countries cannot offer, for example, historical Asian towns/villages, old shrines and temples, snowy mountains, forests with various trees, traditional gardens etc.   Big cities like Tokyo or Osaka portray not only the modern busy aspects of urban lifestyle but also ethnic, exotic, and oriental cultures.
